Old Build - Horizontal offset with Vertical chamber

Postby amusick10 » Tue Jun 04, 2019 7:41 am

Clearing out the phone and found some old pics (about 5 yrs ago) from the second or third smoker I ever built. This one was a blast to build and and owner I had a great time making it work with all of his ideas.

The horizontal chamber was reverse flow and the vertical chamber had a baffle plate that allowed it to be completely blocked off when not in use. 48” of horizontal cook chamber, 24” wide vertical chamber, 20” 3/8” wall pipe. Firebox was 1/4” with a 1/2” bottom.

It’s neat looking back seeing my shop before the plasma table, bigger welders, welding table, remodel, and even before the handheld plasma! Very grateful for what I’ve been able to do and the people I’ve gotten to build for throughout the years so far.

How did the smoker end up working I would like to put a baffle in mine that I'm building to cut off the vertical section but I think I will use a normal flow horizontal chamber stack

The vertical end worked great, granted it was 20-50 degrees cooler depending on fire temp but it was definitely shut off once the baffle was closed.

Yes and yes, like the vertical wasn’t even there.
