Vertical smoker exhaust needs
I am building a vertical smoker that I converted from an expansion tank. My question is does the smoke chamber act as part of the overall exhaust height that you get when you use Feldon's calculator? My tank is 23" in diameter with a fire camber that is 23" around by 20" tall. The smoke chamber is 23" around by 36" tall. I plan to use a 4" exhaust pipe for the stack, Feldon's says I need 33" of exhaust with that size. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that Color.
It just needs some touching up around the doors.

That's a fab stage...the sills were welded in and I polished the welds. It will be black when it's finished.

Re: Vertical smoker exhaust needs
I have built a couple of cabinet smokers, just using 1/8" diamond plate. On top I put a 4" square tubing about 6-8" on top. Just enough that I could put a dampner on it to control the air flow. I only had a 4" square hole in the bottom for the intake. They work just fine. I think your smoking chamber counts as the smokestack since all the heat is going up.
Now it may be different if you put a smokestack with the outlet near the bottom of the smoking chamber.
Just my $.02

Really nice looking build except for the ORANGE primer.
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE

Smoker is finished and happy to say she chugged along at 250 degrees for several hours. Thanks for the help!

Re: Vertical smoker exhaust needs
That is really cool. I am planning a similar vertical build, just curious if it is diffused between firebox and smoke chamber ? Thank you

Re: Vertical smoker exhaust needs
Yes, I built a diffuser that can be removed with slots cut to allow even heat. I also set my water pan on it to help with heat transference into the smoke chamber. I will add pictures when I get a chance.
