Insulated Vertical Reverse Flow Smoker Build

Postby SasquatchTX » Sun Jun 17, 2018 11:33 pm

After almost 3 years of trying to design "My Perfect Smoker", I finally had enough and bit the bullet. After searching around quite a few builds, I took what I learned (likes and dislikes) and came up with a design that I think is going to rock. I am one of the lucky ones who has a close Brother who is a certified welder, which is awesome because I am more of a "grinder" than a welder.

Earlier this month I acquired all (or so I thought) the materials and trailer I would need for my build. I have always been a fan of vertical smokers, and the reverse flow vertical was intriguing. Since maintaining temps can be a struggle, I decided to go ahead and make mine insulated. And since EVERYTHING is bigger and better in TEXAS, I wanted to make sure I could smoke a lot of meat!!

Overall dimensions: 64" wide, 72" tall (including legs, not including stacks), 28" deep.

Final design = 2 independent smoke chambers, 2" insulation, and a trailer to get it where it needs to go!

Today completed weekend 2 (day 4) of the build. Trying to make a 07 July deadline for an event.....only time will tell at this point. lol.

Day 1: Got the materials cut for the framework.

Day 2: Framework is tack welded on the trailer.

Day 3: Got everything squared up (side to side, front to back, top to bottom) and permanently welded.

Day 4: Skins and insulation are being added. Also got the 2" inlets installed on one side.

(Gotta love badass tools!!! Made quick work of the vent holes!)

I'll keep you all posted with my progress, but I think it's all coming together! Still a ton of work to get done to meet that deadline!

Thanks for the comments, it's exciting to see it coming together.

Also, I am not sure how to rotate the images...they look correct before upload. If someone can help out with that, it would be appreciated.

I saved them to my machine and straightened them up. They looked perfect in my Files but when I post them here they are laid down :dont:

For me they all look turned left 90 degree.
I think it is the same problem, everybody have. If u makle the pics with ur mobile and hold it upright, they will be turned 90 degrees. Maybe there are some settings in the forum software, that it turns automatically. But i know only Xenforo software and not the admin panel of this php forum.

That's also the way they appear "here" to me.
I have flipped and reduced many pics here for others but for some reason, these won't edit and then post up correctly for me ????? :dont:

Our place is out of Startzville in Canyon Lake Hills on the south side. I go up pretty often.

One heckuva project! Can't wait to see it finished!

As to the pictures, for whatever it's worth, if you click on them, they straighten out and get bigger.

Out of town last weekend for work, so I didn’t get to work on the project, but we are hitting it hard this weekend! I will post more photos with progress for both days!
