New build

Postby Mule rider » Wed Feb 07, 2018 1:49 am

Here are some pics of my new build.I am about 3/4 finished with the build. I started it last weekend hope to have it finished by Friday. I was going to have it sandblasted but found out the tank was powder coated so I have to sand the powder coating off because of rust pits under the coating. I will post more pics as I complete the build.

Well today I was able to get most of the smoker ready.( Putting on handles installing temp gauge , tacking in the chimney, installing fire box door handle, weld in my expanded metal for rack and lower shelf). I even had time to do my 1st burn in on the smoker to check the draft. Every thing seem good, holds temp good. was able to get 400 degrees with no problem and lower the temp to 225 degrees by use of a damper and restricting air flow.I will post pics as available.

I did my first cook yesterday. I only had 1 plate to disperse the heat next to my firebox and my beer can chicken cooked too fast. So today I cut some more plates and arranged them so help disperse the heat evenly across my cooking chamber. I was able to get between 5-8 degrees difference across the cooking chamber. I also cemented and pop riveted gasket material on then lid to seal the lid. Had to order a toggle latch to latch the lid tight. I will post pics of the completed smoker as soon as I install the latch.

Nice looking Mule Rider  :salut:

BTW, do you ride and compete on a Long Eared Equine Variety :?:

the reason I asked is that I competed on a 15 hand Molly Mule for several years back in the days :salut:

Thanks for the complement on my smoker. I rode a mule for about 15 years. We packed into the wilderness and hunted with them. Member of the Back Country Horseman of Calif. where we would clear trails in the wilderness to keep the trails open not only for stock but also for hikers. My molly mule ended up with ring bone so I had to retire her. Now we have 5 horses. Since I retired I have been so busy i don't know when I had time to work before. But one thing I know retirement is the best Job I never had. :laughing7:

thanks, I too have been retired for some time now and my hobbies are cooking and Family

Oh almost forgot to ask - - have you ever been to Bishop Mule Days ? I always wanted to go but never got the chance altho a lot of my competitive friends hauled out there. They always said it was like no other Long Ears Gathering/Competition around. :salut:

I used to ride a molly mule until she developed ring bone . Never made it to Muledays but we packed in the wilderness quite a few time over the last 20 years. I smoked some ribs on my new smoker this weekend. turned out great.
