REVERSE FLOW SMOKER "FINE TUNING"

I have a reverse flow Johnson Smoker with a horizontal 6-5/8" pipe instead of baffles coming out of the firebox. The flow of smoke and heat is very fast and uneven
I have tried water pans and using a perforated pie pan to cover the pipe and dissipate the smoke a little bit.
Any suggestions on how to fine tune this device? the fabricator just suggested using pans of water but there is more to it than that.

It could be that you are running it with too large a coal base. Have you tried a small coal base to slow the draft?
If you could put up some detailed pics of the inside it would help.

...configure out of cardboard...an attachment that fits over the exhaust pipe that necks down the opening an inch or two (cone shape) lessen the draw some...then check it again...

Reach out to Chad at Johnson Smokers. When I was smoker shopping he was more than willing to answer all my questions. He knows his pits better than anybody else and should be able to help..............

Also, I think KAM may be onto something (Big Shock :laughing7: ).
