The ash pan I made is working great... If you have the skills and desire I highly recommend my approach. I've owned a quarter inch ash pan before and it's a pain in the ash.

I will add if you plan on using a remote temp unit you'll want a port to run the wire since LSG flanging is tight. See my earlier post for details.

Welcome back all... It's been a while but I wanted to share my recent magic trick...

Voila.......

A levitating sheet pan - full size no less.

So, a magician never reveals his secret - BUT - I'm no magician. I'm just a cooker that would be heartbroken if a full packer brisket were to fall off the shelf on to the ground. I've owned serveral pits and the shelf was a constant weak spot, even when upgrading to a larger/wider option. The pit door handle is always hitting on something when you open it so you lose about 50% of your usable space right there. The door lip eats up nearly 20% across the rest of the width. It was always a balancing act or you needed some assistance to avoid disaster.

I present the secret to the floating baking sheet.

Solution?

Well, that and some black oxide fasteners.

Image

While it can be removed the cutting board folds down along with the shelf keeping the clean look of the LSGz workmanship.

A close-up of the fasteners... countersunk panheads.

I don't use it as a cutting board but you could. These are available in lots of different color too. So, no more worries about shelf space and clean-up's a breeze. Thanks as always for looking. Keep Smokin'

Just ordered my LSG 24x40; 1/2 FB, wheel upgrade and stainless front shelf. I think I'm gonna steal a couple of your ideas; especially the lower shelf and damper handle. If you could do it over, would you change anything else?

Only 15 weeks and 3 days to go; but from everything I've read, it will be well worth the wait.

I just had Chris add this to my build. Thank you for the tip!

Wouldn't change anything... except to look things over more closely before driving off.

About the only item I didn't get was the stainless front shelf and I don't particularly miss it... but I admit they look fantastic.

You're gonna love the way it cooks.

You're quite welcome. Feel free to copy any mods I've posted. I'd like to think some of them would eventually make it into the LSGz arsenal - either as standard features or options.

It's been a while since I've done anything to my LSGz pit other than cook some fantastic food. Having a chance to play around with my welding machine I came up with the following. A hand full of 5/8" nuts and some free time... well, I'm just "Nutz About Texas".

Added benefit is the lid is even easier to raise now. Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Can you give some details and pics showing how the fold down table works?

The two t-handle pieces raise up to interlock with the underside of the shelf angle iron. Pretty simple and largely maintenance free.

Nice! Thank you. I didn't notice the T pieces before.

Let me add.... the two t-pieces are connected and rise together. Very easy one hand operation. :texas:
