Building new and have a few questions
I am building a new smoker FB 24"x24" insulated, cooking chamber 24"x48" and vertical 24"x24"x48". Is a 24"x24" FB to big for the pit? Thinking of using 3/8" inside wall and 1/4" outside wall of the FB with flexible ceramic 1" insulation. Thoughts on the FB? Thinking of 1/4" or 3/8" for the rest of the pit.

Re: Building new and have a few questions
24" x 24" is too big in my opinion.
Here is a link to to a calculator that will help you. I plugged in your numbers.

I do not calculate a vertical chamber when figuring volume because they act more as an exhaust. Disregard the exhaust length if you use a vertical chamber as it only needs to be 6" to 12" tall and large enough to let the cooker draft.
1/4" is fine on your main chamber and vertical.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, it helps. Having a local high school welding class make the pit. Will post a pic when done.
