Installed 2 temp gauges on my custom 20", 48 inches long smoker. It is 50 degrees off from left to right. The higher temp is on the firebox side. It has a 20" Horizon convection plate installed. How close can I get the 2 sides?

With your current situation 50° is not all that bad the smaller the chamber the harder to even out temps. I would get used to rotating meat on long cooks.

It is not working as designed. I would find something different. Baffle plates specifically.

^^^ or that could work too. 50 deg is really not too bad.

Try laying an aluminum (or other) pan filled with water in the bottom of the smoker close to the firebox. Leave a few inches between the pan and the firebox opening so it doesn't completely disrupt the air flow. This should minimize the difference some as long as you keep water in the pan.
