Hi all, wasn't sure if I should put this in new members or pit build.
Thanks for the add to the forum, I've been lurking for a while getting build ideas from this and other forums so I thought it was time to introduce myself and show you what I've been up to.
My name is Andrew and I'm from Wollongong, (just south of Sydney) Australia.
I decided to build a smoker due to my wife and I being in the States for our honeymoon a few years back and loved the type of bbq you guys served up.
Opportunity came up to score an old air receiver from work and the ideas started to flow. I guess I'll just let the build pics talk for themselves.
Well, that's her. It took a while to build due to first trying to go off pics, then changed design, then found the pit calculator and had to change design again. It was a lot of trial and error bug got there in the end and I'm happy with the final product.
Thanks to all who give their ideas and advice to people on this forum.

Always good to have Aussies and Kiwis and the like on the forum. Just good people. Welcome aboard, the bar is in the bow, the kitchen is amidships, and the head is in the stern. Grab a drink and enjoy the view.

Re: Newby and new build in Oz
I appreciate the welcome. I figured if I'm going to learn about the bbq I enjoy cooking and eating, I may as well join up with the people who know what they are doing.
First cook was some simple chicken legs in a bbq sauce marinade. They lasted about two minutes on the table and tried a pork shoulder last night with a dry rub. Got a light bark on it and an awesome smoke ring, but just need to get it more tender.
