Heat plate question

Ok I'm trying to figure out the length of the initial bent section for my heat plate. I have 5.5" from the grate to the opening of the firebox. If I go 4.5" below the grill for the plates to be located. I have 2" down to a 45* for a set length then another 45 to a 1" section. If I know A squared plus B squared equals C squared A and b are 4.5" then c equal ~6.375" or overall then of ~8.5" with loss of length when it gets bent so do I cut the shape first or cut and bend it first? Also is there a minimum # of plates going across the bottom? The overall length is 41.5". I was planning on using 0.25" flat stock as well

Why are you trying to put bends in the deflector? Make it 6" wide cut the sides to fit the chamber on the angle you need and weld it in.
