Although I have been entertaining the thought of maybe pellet fired heat source also. Should provide the heat and the smoke flavoring. Do you have any Intel on something of that magnitude?

I have zero experience with pellet fed cookers. Here is a link to a source that sells them maybe they can help you. :D

Saturday was really busy with cooking but Sunday I had time to put some storage space up front.
This is about 53.5" long by 37.5" wide. Enough room for our ice chests and two canopy's.

I couldn't weld two pieces of rebar together. :( Looks like you'll have a nice trailer when done.

Been pretty busy but in between cooking today I had time to finish my k.a.m. lock for the hitch and get the front deck welded on.

In between odd jobs and comps I finally had a Sunday I could do a little to the build.
My daughter is the city secretary for a small town nearby and she asked if I could build her marshal some target stands to qualify his deputy's I was glad to help I built three stands from some tubing and angle iron I had in the back of my shop.
They are two piece. I started them the other day and finished them this morning.

Once I was done with those I built the propane holder for the cooker.

Why can't the fire box be on the side of the pit at a off-set, with open on the ends and two feeder tubs (4" Square tubing on the fire tub to feed briquettes in

Like a gravity fed cooker? If this is what you are referring to then I guess it may work I have zero experience with one I prefer my wood fired offsets.

quick question kam.

i'm planning to add a top rack to my build.

if your bottom rack is at 3, where would you say you are placing your top rack?

from the 12 oclock to 3oclock mark, 3 oclock being grate level, and 12 being the bottom of the top of the opening, it is 12".

i'm thinking about 4-5 " down from the bottom of the top of the inside of the door.

also, are you tacking the back first, then level, then tack the front? or do i have that backwards?

thanks

Need to build sliding grill grates. Ultimately SS would be favorable, but expensive. Are there any options?

I am starting a huge project and looking for any help I can get.
I run the weld shop a Washington Family Ranch. A Younglife camp. I have set sail on building a BBQ trailer that will feed up to 400 kids with an occasional 800 guest event. I have acquired a 1000 gal propane tank and a set of axles. This will be from the ground up pit.

Plans, pictures, suggestions, ideas, all welcome. I want to get this done right. I have built other small smokers, and even a tar kettle for road maintenance. So the idea of making my own burners and trailer lay out. Is not the hard part. I want the fire box and the tank and the shelving to work to its best ability.

Am I barking up the right tree, thanks for any help that you may have.

I apologize for the late reply jellyworker. The bottom of top grate is 6" above the top of my lower grate. For leveling purposes just take a piece of flat bar however tall you want your rail and stand it on the lower grate running edge ways to the chamber make your front and rear marks on the left and right and you are there.
Or you can take a piece of 2" x 6" stand it on edge on the grate facing front to back and add some scrap however much you need to reach your height then lay your rail on it while you tack the front and back.
I hope this helps. :D

I had some nice weather today so I took advantage of the sun and nothing else on my plate to get a little bit done on the cooker.
First off I put some stops on the base where the propane tank goes.
Image

Then I put my couplings on for my gas lines.
Image

Image

Then I fired up the cooker to see what she would do with some extreme heat. I got her up to about 325° with no problems and started playing with the plates. I was able to get her to with in about 10° to 15° left to right and hold it once she was well heated She will take some learning as the chamber is much thicker than Bahama Mama and a lot smaller.

Image

Image

She was humming with nothing but a heat signature.
Image

This was about all the intake I needed.
Image

While all that was going on I built the front shelf and installed it.
