Hi guys.

I have just signed up with Texas bbq forum .com and wanted introduce myself.

I have been bbq'ing for a few years now but only using a gas bbq. (please don't judge me)

My issue is that i want to get more of an authentic bbq flavour without getting did of my current one, as i can't afford buying a more traditional model at present.

My question is;

Is there any way i can up grade my current bass bbq with stones or adding different woods ?

I love caribbean cooking, so most of the food i cook has a jerk feel to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :D

I put lower grates topped with lava rock in my gasser then used wood chips and it helped. Found the best way to do wood chip is use a wire mesh cylinder (I used a bird feeder) with the bottom also meshed (I used a sink strainer) load with chips (or sawdust) and start it over the burner but blow out the active flame after it gets going well letting it smolder and move it to a corner where it is not directly above a burner and the convection currents will help circulate the smoke.

Now I have a pellet grill so this method isn't used much any more but it helped.

When I was on the dark side with a Holland gasser, my best results were wrapping a bunch of chips in a foil packet with several holes poked in the top.

Welcome to the forum

I used a gas grill years ago too.
Easiest way to smoke on a gas grill is, wood chunks or saw dust wrapped in foil.

Another option is a smoker tube.
Use it when i cold smoke a steak.
Easy to use with pellets and I like the outcome
