Dying over here

Postby TX1911 » Wed Jan 14, 2015 11:11 am

For the first time in about 17 years, I'm pit-less!

How do y'all do it when you've ordered a custom pit? The wait is killing me!!

Working with Vasbinder's in Richmond, TX. They're building a 24" x 48" offset with a 24" firebox, one door with two sliding main grates and one sliding upper grate. And a beer holder welded onto the work shelf.

Just got an update that delivery should be no later than Saturday. Pretty excited to say the least. Hey also said that I got a steal on this since it was the first one this size with the options. They're selling variations now for between 2200 and 2800. Better lucky than good!

Well, here are the promised pictures. Better late than never. I smoked some drumsticks for super bowl and they were a huge hit. She held 250 for hours with almost no effort on my part. It took quite a bit to get her up to 325 for the chicken, but once I got her there, she stayed.

Image

The lower rack with the convection plate I had them make. At temp, closest to the firebox showed 257 on the Maverick and near the stack showed 252.

Image

Should have had them make a 1911 to go along with it....
Image

One big ole firebox!
Image

Can't wait to throw a brisket and/or pork butt on it (or six).

Thanks for looking!
