Re: New competition rig build
What are you planning on cutting the sheet metal with? I tell you what, the coolest tool Ive stumbled across in doing this build is this saw from Milwaukee, it cuts through the 11g sheet like nothing, you could rip a sheet in half in under a minute! Well worth the money!!
http://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/corded/6370-20
There are videos on YouTube showing it easily cutting 1/2" and even cutting 3/4" with a little effort.

More then likly ill just cut it with a grinder and cutting wheel.
I dont do enough metal work to justify the purchase of it.

Thanks Ed!
Got some more work done the past few days. Here are a couple pics. Anyone know of any good high temp body filler? There are a couple pf parts on the barrel I'd like to fill as well as on the firebox.

Re: New competition rig build
Man thats how my driveway looked when i was installing mine. Cherry picker and all haha.
Im debating on doing an additional storage compartment on front of mine on the tongue but my tongue is shorter so i may just get one of those triangle diamond plate boxes from tractor supply and go that way.
Build is looking good! Keep it up!

I appreciate it! Currently as it sits the tongue has a bit of weight to it, but probably not enough to make it very tow able. On the front passenger side of the trailer next to the storage box will be a 350lb vertical smoker. I figure with that and the other things I plan on putting in and near the storage box the tongue will be plenty heavy.
Anyone have any good recommendations for a high gloss sprayable paint that will withstand the 350 degrees that the pit may get up to? What do manufactures like Jambo and R&O use for their gloss finishes on the pits?
I think I'm going to use Sherwin Williams Genesis on the trailer, I'm going to call tomorrow and ask what the max temp is for that stuff.

Re: New competition rig build
With the first cook of my season fast approaching I needed to speed up, I took a couple of days last week to get the pit cookable. Its just about finished, I lack some touch up welding, grinding, body work and paint.
I got her fired up Friday evening and let it burn for several hours with a bunch of beef fat and grease in it. Once I figured out how to cook on an insulated pit this thing held temps like a dream! Nothing but pure clean smoke!! This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
Its now officially going to make the trip to the KCBS cookoff in San Marcos this weekend, as ugly as it may be right now.

Re: New competition rig build
I love it! especially the front storage area. As far as the high temp paint, rustoleum makes a really nice semigloss that we use on our fire pits and smokers, it's rated for like 1200' holds up really well. It's available in quarts and gallons. Lowes, Home depot, Cassity Jones usually have it.
