Jambo's and a lot of others with the same design have a upward draft deflector at the firebox which forces the heat/smoke up then down to the exhaust that splits the lower grate. Conventional type offsets like mine with tuning plates forces the heat/smoke down and back up to the top to the higher exhaust. Both work well neither in my opinion are better than the other once you learn how to run the cooker.
