Ok, Puff, It's not a fancy island, but it works for us.
When I did the back of the house I added an insulated roof area the length of the house that extended out 10 ft past the eve. Then had a preloaded beam made so that the 30 ft span at the house end of the pool cage and roof wouldn't have to have any support poles. Then at the end of the left end of the patio we ran a 9x24 slab down the side of the house and roofed it over. Installed lights and water. This is our grilling and smoking area.

We spend a lot of time out there. We cook and eat out on the patio most evenings. Having the grills and smoker out of the weather really makes it nice. Believe it or not that old Weber kettle gets the most use.
I really like it when the weather gets cool and we fire up the fireplace and sit around it and relax after dinner.
