I have a question on the fire box. How is everyone latching the door closed? Do you have pictures?

Here are some more pictures of the completed racks. I have to add the other end cap this week and prep it for sandblasting.
I hope to be seasoning by the beginning of next week.
I need help on the top of the door. When I add the striping to the top it always seems to bind. Is there a way to do this with out it binding? I plan on it just as a cover up. I will be welding a strip on the inside to also help with the smoke. Any suggestions?

thats the problem with hinges that pivot right at the cut line. The hinge pivot needs to be set back from the door cut line in order for the banding to clear.

Welding the band on the inside of the pipe will work as a smoke seal, and you can put a decorative band on the top of the door even with the edge of the door and it then should not bind.
Look at the picture of my hinges on this newest pit and see how far the hinge pivot is back fron the edge of the door cut out. See how mush clearance there is between the banding and the pipe.

Yes I see what you are talking about. I guess I will know that for the next build. I will have to make it work cutting around the hinges for decoration and weld the strip underneath.
Pony another question. Do you like your exhaust pipe that low? If you look at my pictures I am thinking of placing my exhaust pipe just below the second rack so it will be 4 in above the bottom rack. I am making it a reverse flow. I am thinking that will give some good flow but I am worried about smoke to the upper racks.

heat rises. if you stack is high, the heat will travel along the top and out the pipe leaving a colder cooking surface. The lower outlet causes the heat to be trapped down lower. I wish I had actually put mine a little lower.
Now I have no experience with a reverse flow so there may be some different physics involved there

on my reverse flow, the stack opening is centered on my lowest grate. If you can go lower, i would suggest that

Really good. It is 25 deg differences between racks bottom to top 50 degs and 3 deg from right to left. The reverse flow helps out a lot on this thing because of the temps I need to heat up in the beginning.
