Judged My First Contest

Postby Swamp Donkeyz BBQ » Mon May 09, 2016 11:22 am

Due to our crazy baseball schedule, I wasn't able to cook Chigger Hill this year. I did however judge it. This was my first time to judge a contest and Rob and Mandy were kind enough to get me a seat on the FT for all four meats. This was definitely a wake up call for me in the brisket category, which slipped out of the top 10 several months ago and never came back. I enjoyed the experience very much and was impressed with how the judging was ran. The teams really showed out on brisket.

I really enjoyed meeting you and Debbie too. Hopefully the next time we run across each other, we will have time to hang out and sip on a couple of cold drinks.

What did you take away from the experience the most?

I learned what flavor profiles are hitting and what all goes on behind the curtain. If you have a category that's slipping, I highly recommend judging a contest.
