Not really bad etiquette but nobody knows the winner until it is announced. It is blind judging so not even the judges have a clue who's brisket belongs to who.
By the time winners are announced the briskets have been sitting or sampled out and are not in their prime.

I may be wrong, but aren't the judges throwing away the trays now? I didn't think they were allowing that anymore?

Yes, but that's just the rub outside, sweet inbetween slices is pure blashemy imo. Lot's of cheaters nowdays too btw.

Done them both ways, used SB Honey and placed and hit with the salt and pepper. The trays are thrown away now by IBCA standards, meat that has been sitting out for over two hours  .
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Arnie, what do you mean by cheaters? I know it goes on but just curious.

I turned in the best brisket I have ever cooked in my life in Marksville this past march. I've had 1st and 2nd place briskets that couldn't touch this one at all. Didn't even hit a final table with it. They guy in the cabin next to me said he tasted the top 3 and all 3 were sweet. :dont: :dont:

I'm curious too. Although I don't compete I find it interesting to hear about competitions good or bad. I use a commercial rub that is pretty popular and has a sweet component but my brisket never tastes sweet to me. Are people "glazing" the slices or similar to get that sweetness so many hate??
