Charity events never seem to be too popular on the competition circuit LOL

If they did it right, the cookers will show up!! Get sponsors, have raffles , do a 50/50. Taking all the cooks $$$ will probably equal a small turn out.

I've been watching this event, I really been wanting to do it for a couple of years, but it coincided with another event. From what I understand, it started as a small neighborhood event, and grew to over 50 teams last year. 50% of all the money goes to a Wounded warrior retreat facility they fund, The remaining money (25% to 1st place ribs, and 25% to first place brisket) will be donated to the winning teams charity of choice. I compete for the competition and the spirit of the event, I don't like taking something I love to do and turn it into a job LOL. If it was just about the money, I would make a lot more money if I just gave up BBQ and Went to work Friday and Saturday. Just my 2 cents.

WarPig BBQ will be there. We cooked it last year, had a good time. We do plenty of cookoffs that pay money, this is one that I choose to do because of the charity it sponsors.

It was a lot of fun! The rain held off during the cook, and for the announcements. After we got back to our beach house, cleaned up, settled in and sat around to talk, then it started to rain. We got 2nd place ribs, and 7th place brisket out of 30 teams (I heard there were 30, but don't know for 100%) I did get an email saying that the BBQ cook-off raised over $11,000 for the wounded warrior retreat!

Thanks for the update. how big are the spots down there? Are they big enough for a large trailer rig and a motorhome?

they asked me what I needed, so I don't think it's an issue, they basically have several empty lots that they use. They let me cook at the beach house I rented on the street over and just drove my box to the judging area.
