For those that inject

Postby S.O.L. BBQ » Sat Oct 27, 2012 7:35 pm

Do you use a throw away injector or not. I have been useing the throw away ones and now looking at getting a better type. Need one that has a small needle and one that you can get replacement needles for. Have looked online and found many different types and price range. Want to see what has worked for other people. It will only be used at comps don't inject when I q at the house.
Thanks Dwight

I use a Bayou Classic Stainless Injector. It has two needles. They are pretty good size, six inch. I'm sure they make different sizes. I picked mine up at Academy.

If we injected we would use the ones you find at Academy sports and outdoors they work really well. That is if we injected.

Depends on what I'm injecting as what kinda needle I prefer. For thicker liquids I use a cajun injector on brisket primarily because of the amount I pump into the meat and the viscosity of the substance ... for chicken I like to use smaller needles. I buy some at Tractor Supply with replacable needles 1"- 16 gauge. Maybe it just me but the I like to think the smaller holes allow less liquid to leak back out.

Well "IF" I injected this is what I would use with the 16g needle, I carry two of them just in case I ever decide to inject.

My injector has a 3" needle which works just fine for me. I have to turn the meat over anyway while adding the rub so a few more flips doesn't bother me.

I reuse the cheapie throwaway ones, I just make sure I have few laying around. I make sure they are sterile before using them by running them through the diswasher in the anti-bacterial setting. I toss them when they start getting crappy. One day I'll get a nicer one. I also have a Cajun injector with the long thick needle that I mostly use on pork butts and hams.
