Nick this is how a typical award ceremony goes down. Anyone correct me if I am wrong I have only been in three cook offs. First if they say it is at 3 expect 3:30 to 4 no big deal I am sure it is super hard to stay on schedule. My first cook off was very late though like 3 hours late. They will get all the cook in a central location and over a P.A. system stat calling ticket numbers from 10th to 1st. When your number gets called you "walk" up to the head judge so they can verify you have the correct ticket then they will announce your team name and usually take a picture. After that they will call the numbers of everybody that made it to the Final Table. You do not walk up for final table but it is nice to know that you were in the running. They usually go in the following order Chicken, Ribs, Brisket, Grand Champion. If there are any other categories they are usually announced either before the main categories or after the brisket when they are calculating the Grand Champion. Extra categories sometimes announce top 10 but a lot of times just announce top 3. At your first comp you will be very anxious so don't lose your tickets in two of the three comps I went to there were unclaimed tickets and in the third there was almost a second place chicken that did not get claimed.
