Lompe Cheese Brats

Postby Professor Bunky » Sat Jun 01, 2019 3:36 pm

After I complained about hot dog buns being too small for a brat, our friend Norway Joe sent me a package of Lompe. So I had to try them out with some left-over cheese brats I had previously frozen. They worked great! The Lompe is a very thin flatbread (potato-based, I believe) and it works much better that a flour tortilla or any conventional flatbreads used around here for wraps.

Thank you Joe! :salut:

Nice. Cool that you like them. You can also put it on top of a bun with hot dog. If you have any left, try to make a wrap:

Spread Philadelphia cheese on them. A few slices of smoked salmon, som slices of red onions and avocado. Roll it together and slice in two. Very tasty.

The texture is really light and diffferent! (I had a bite of the cheese brat). I bet PB would love the smoked salmon version.

Thanks, Norway Joe! :salut:

Here's our smoked salmon, rolled in a Lompe. Instead of cream cheese, we used a mixture of sour cream & Icelandic yogurt. We also used green onions instead of red.

I can see you're using the correct salmon. Lol.

How was it? Did you like it?

When I saw the salmon selection in the store, I had to go with the Norwegian product.

I liked it, thanks! Lompe works very well for this. We're going to look into domestic sources of Lompe (apparently, it's popular in the US Midwest, especially around Minnesota).

She's a fine Lady and here's her reply:

He's probably talking about lefse - Norwegian flatbread - one of my favorite foods (with butter & cinnamon sugar)!
Pronounced "LEF - sa"

There are tons of recipes on the internet.

I googled "Lefse" and it's everywhere and on Ebay also.

Thanks!

As I understand it, Lompe is a smaller version of Lefse that's particularly good for hot dogs & such. I'm sure I can find it online.

Cool. Lefse and lompe is not quite the same. They're both made of potatoes and look similar, but lefse is sweeter and never used with hotdogs. For wraps like above they are excellent and more used than lompe. Lefse with cinnamon, sugar and buter is great. In lefse there is so much flour you can get. in lompe it's as little as you can.

Just don't do like the Japanese that got served lefse with cinnamon, butter and sugar on Scandinavian Airlines. He thought it t was a wet saviette and washed his face with it. Didn't look good.

You can make lompe or lefse in a frying pan.
