Just made a very easy bread. This is great with, chili, soup or just as an ordinary slice of bread.
Very easy. Just mix the flour, yeast and water in a bowl in the evening. Let it stand on the counter over the night. In the morning put a casserole in the oven and set to 464.
While waiting for the oven to heat up, pour out the dough from the bowl on the counter. Fold the dough over itself. Let it rest until oven is warm.
When the oven is ready take out the heated casserole and put the dough in and put on the lid. Cook in oven for about 40 min. Then take off the lid and cook for another 10-15 min. until golden color and crisp.
Here is the recipe if someone want to try:
600 grams of wheat flour
250 grams of spelt flour (I think it's called this in English to).
2 teaspoons of salt
1/2 teaspoon of dry yeast.
Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.
Add 7 deciliter( 2.96 cups) of water and stir.
Lay a cloth over the bowl and let rest on the counter overnight.

That bread looks great but if I'm having bread with soup or Chili it's going to be cornbread. Do they have corn meal where you live?

Great-looking loaf, Joe! We've done that a couple times. Here, it's called Dutch Oven Bread.

Re: Great bread for chili or soup
Thanks.
Interesting name. We mostly make bread that needs a lot of work with the dough,, if we make bread. This is very easy since it doesn't require any work with the dough but still tastes great. We eat a lot of bread here.. Normal breakfast is 2-3 slices of bread with cheese and a glass of milk. For lunch at work most people bring from home a packet with a few slices of bread with cheese or other topping. Same to school.

Yes, we do have corn meal but I don't think it much used. When I make cornbread i use corn which I crush in a foodmixer and blend with wheat flour, before I add the rest of the stuff. That works great.Rambo wrote:That bread looks great but if I'm having bread with soup or Chili it's going to be cornbread. Do they have corn meal where you live?
This bread tastes great. Try it with olive oil sprinkled on a slice and some salt on top. Or with tapenade as topping. Delicious.

True Greg. That's why we don't make much bread.GRailsback wrote:That does look good, they have wonderful breads over there.
Actually we have a bread subscription. I won't eat bread that is more than one day old. Bread must be fresh. Every morning we get a warm freshly baked bread in the mailbox. Delivered with the newspaper. It's great.

We used to get our milk delivered , but never heard of home service bread delivery. But I did love the bread over there. Happy Easter Mr. Joe.

It's a relative new service. Had it for about a year. Doesn't cost more than a high quality bread in the store.
Thank, and a great Easter to you and your family too. Mr. Greg.
