Waffles and Brown cheese
My wife dished up a sweet lunch today. Waffles with dairy butter and brown cheese. Very good.
We make the waffles thinner than what is normally served in the US I think.
Sometimes she makes the waffles of wholegrain flour, but they are no good so I have vetoed them.

Oddly enuff I bought some Belgium Waffle Mix the other day instead of the normal combination flour that you can make waffles, pancakes or biscuits from

Brown cheese is technically not cheese. It's made of whey and cream boiled down. In other words the rest from cheese production. It has a caramel taste.
Here is a more thorough explanation:

I think it's available in the US. you should try it if available. Delicious in sauces for game.

It's electric. Also have one iron that we can use over open fire too.OldUsedParts wrote:Very Nice is your Waffle Iron electric or what

YES! Do you know it? It's the same. We have several varieties with more or less goat milk. I like the one with less goat milk.Sailor Kenshin wrote:Similar to Gjetost?

Re: Waffles and Brown cheese
those open fire or wood stove Griswold irons are the old mainstay. We have one but the new fangled electric iron gets most of the use.

Yes! We used to buy it from a place called Food of All Nations. Now they even have it in regular supermarkets.

That's cool. Do you like it? Is it produced in the US or is it imported from Norway. I believe it's some production in the US too.Sailor Kenshin wrote:Joernolav wrote:YES! Do you know it? All of the Gjetost we bought was imported from Norway....I seem to recall a bright red label.

Re: Waffles and Brown cheese
Hey Joe, just wanted to bump this thread to show you what waffles in Mi Casa look like.
Your Missus' are quite superior but here's what I do.
Found a new Belgian Waffle Mix that I tried fro the first time today.
These mixes come from the Depression Era (1932) when several ladies got together to try and come up with a Pie Crust Recipe that you could use water instead of milk. The product evolved into what is now called Krusteaz (Crust-Ease) and they have many cake, quick bread, waffle and etc mixes that require no milk.
I am a huge fan of their Cranberry Orange Quick Bread and some others. Now I'm a fan of their Waffle mix.
My Waffle iron is electric and I/We usually just put butter and cane syrup on them.
