Tamales part 2!
Figured the best way to serve up the fresh, homemade tamales would be with some chili, cheese, and chopped onyawn..
Put them in ol' faithful..
Then topped them with some cheddar..
Here's the chili I've been working on today for them..
And now ready for the oven!
In the oven they will go at 375 until the cheese melts, then I turn it off and leave them in there for 15 min. Afterwards, they will rest another 10-15. Plating to commence soon!

Out of the oven..
Plated..
So it may not look pretty, in fact, it looks like a hot mess. How's it taste? Wow!! The wife is mad because she ate too much and the kids were in complete silence. All they said was, "woah!"

If I could keep from eating them all right from the start then that is the way for sure.

Thanks all! This was a huge hit. Given all the work involved, it's a special occasion or once in a while meal though. Lol!
You'll probably never want them any other way again!
Tamale pie!! That's it, couldn't think of the official name. Lol!
This isn't a Dragon original idea, I've had them like this before, although the location eludes me. Somewhere around the San Antonio area..

IMHO - - - Tamales "in General" need something else like a Queso dip, Cheese melted on top or Chili and they covers all the bases right there. In my Tamale mileage, very few can actually become "finger food" As for MOI, only one woman has ever been able to turn them into a delicious finger food type snack. She would go "halves" with my oldest son -------- he would furnish the Venison and she would made the tamales then they split the results 50/50. Even tho she was pure Hispanic from Mexico she called David "Her Boy". Miss ya Mz. Ester

Well, I don't see a hot mess.
That looks awesome, I'd grab some corn tortillas to finish off the drippings... :)

Boy oh boy.. I still have a venison hind and fore quarter left over. Will venison tamales be my next Tex mex venture?! I understand what ya mean about needing something. Most times, they are really dry. These did not turn out dry in the least! That's what really floored me because I thought they would. I was really worried about my masa but it came through. I also had a tamale "connection" back in the day. She made great Barbacoa also, every Sunday.

Thanks, WV! I would have made some fresh tortillas to go along with, but the kitchen already looked like a family of Tasmanian devils ran through it. Lol!
