The wife got me an early Christmas gift, shown below..
And I've already made some nice-ish French bread..
Now after finally locating some rye flour locally, I'm attempting my first rye loaf. Going to attempt some rye hamburger buns for a new burger on the menu because we just can not find anyone close by that sells them and to have them shipped, comes out to about 2 dollars per bun, so I thought I'd try the recipe on a regular loaf first then move forward with the burger buns.
On another topic, I've had a few folks look at me funny when I say my wife got ME a stand mixer and a few other kitchen gadgets for Christmas. Lol!

Re: My first rye loaf.
Aaahhh!! Totally forgot the pics. I actually still have some left, so I'll snap those today. Lol! The rye flour I got is for light rye, but I can make a dark version with the addition of cocoa powder. I made another batch of French bread as well (kinda why I forgot the baked rye photos.) Lol! The second round 9f French bread turned out perfect. A very nice crusty crust and soft, medium density center. I took a slice of that and toasted it with some garlic butter.. words couldn't be found at that moment!
The rye bread didn't have a solid rye taste though. It was nice and crisp when toasted, but lacking some punch. I am going to try that particular bread recipe for another application I will post about on another day. Stay tuned!!

That's awesome, Tex! Stand mixer's rock! It makes the baking so much easier, which makes you want to bake more often, which makes you end up eating fantastic meals more often and there's really no substitute for fresh, baked bread. Nothing is out of reach anymore with a stand mixer.
Nice job on those breads, btw. Is sourdough next in line?

Sourdough is definitely on my to-do list as well as pretzel.
