Sucklebusters Motorcross Test Run

Postby woodenvisions » Mon Aug 07, 2017 8:39 pm

Well, after tonight's test run with the first time using these rubs and sauces, I do believe we are ready for this weekend's race.

Pulled out the Coleman 2 burner camping stove, the Hungry Cuban Paella Pan, Boneless Breasts and Thighs, and 4 different sauces and rubs from Sucklebusters!
Now, I know these are actually Rubs, and meant for either grilling or smoking but I'm not one to follow the rules, lol.
So instead, I sliced up some breasts and thighs.A little Olive Oil in the pan and I was set. Used the Hoochie Mama on the Breasts ( I used too much ) and followed it up with the Chipotle !
Turned the heat up the last few minutes and constantly moved the pieces around until the sauce started to caramelize.
Next was the Thighs with the Pecan Rub followed by the Hot N Spicy and set the glaze as well.

First I will say this..
I actually felt like I was 6 again camping with Mom & Pops.
Outside at night in the dark, crickets cricketing, and the cool mist and fog in the air and the smell and steam coming from great grub.

Ahh yes, looking forward to doing this with our little buddy very soon
So, Deb doesn't do spicy very well, but I first gave her 3 pieces of the Breasts with Hoochie Mama and Chipotle.
She took one bite and with a big smile, asked..WHAT is on that chicken ?

I told her and before I could get the pan cleaned for the thighs, a 1/4 of the plate was missing lol.

Then, she tasted the Pecan and Hot N Spicy Thighs and it was ALL OVER..

She's hooked on both !
As for me, I can't argue with any of that, it was awesome.

The one pic of the pan gives a hint of what the glaze on the chicken was like.

Sorry for the late night teaser pics, but that's how we do it up here in the Mountains

Thx Gator, you now have another believer and Customer for life !ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Great looking grub there wv, I'm having left over chicken with satay sauce. Pretty average from me compared to your feast.

Which coleman stove are you using? I think I'm about to be in the market.

I've used my Dad's for years. Still get great memories of our fish frys together when I fire it up…but, it can't handle being banged around in the RV anymore. Thinking about keeping it for at home use only after a few repairs and getting a new one for camping.

I noticed on the newest modes the wind blocks are built into the burner stands and they no longer use the side arms. Curious how well those work.

Russ,
Thx dude. Satay sauce ?
I've never had it before, but I looked it up and I see it's a PB style sauce. I'm gonna HAVE to give that a shot.
Nothing ( average ) about that :)

Chris & Sooner,
It was one of those ( throw it at the wall & see what sticks ) deals. I had no idea what I was doing, but both of us were pleasantly surprised.

Sailor,
Are you referring to using a camping stove ?
Yeah, it's great for things like this. Heats up fast, and fuel is very cheap.

Txdragon,
Thx man. I don't know about perfect, but neither of us had one complaint. Those rubs and sauces were a nice surprise.

Outlaw,
Sorry bout that, lol.
I'm the same way when I see something new. Pretty soon I'm gonna need to add an addition to the laundry room just for cooking tools...

Sooner,
Ahh yes, the good old memories with the camp stove. Early morning breakfast, fresh coffee over hot coals on a dewey crisp morning... Good times for sure.
Um, last night was the very 1'st time I've used that Coleman.
It's the 2 burner Triton series. It doesn't have the ignition, so u need a match or bbq lighter.
I was surprised at the heat it put out, and very fine adjustments made it really nice to use. I did however get a few black spots on my Paella pan, but it was my trial run with that as well. It's all good now, heated it up and scrubbed some salt over it.
As for the deflectors, these are part of the top lid. They seemed to be in just the right spot, but last night we didn't have much wind so I'll still need to test that another day.
I initially wanted to use my ( Burton ) stove, but somehow the fuel cartridge went MIA.
Honestly, I think I might like the Burton better.
Seems like a wider burner.

Professor,
Thank you !
It will definitely be something I'll be making again real soon.

Emm,
Great call on the HM and Chip !!
U duh man

Russ[/quote]Really ??

I thought I'd be mixing 20 plus ingredients lol.

Thx Russ, I'm gonna try it.
Do u use as a glaze at the end ?
....
Or, do I use it earlier during the cook ?
I'm planning on doing boneless skinless thighs.

Thx again.
