Lovin' me some Taco Salad

Postby Jarhead » Sat Aug 25, 2012 3:36 pm

I love these things. Too pricy at TB for me. So, I'll just make my own. :)
Made up some of my favorite Taco Seasoning, they can keep that $1 package.
Got some new toys in to try out. I got 2 sets. Just in case Troy wants to borrow one for R&D.

I ended up making 5 individual batches. Here's one in the process.

Shells out of the oven. Gotta think healthy here.

Shredded and chopped up the veggies and cheese. And commenced to build it.

I had planned on a better money shot, but I was hungry.

This Taco Seasoning may be used to flavor other Mexican-style dishes, such as burritos, tostadas, empanadas, or fajitas.
I'm posting this just for those of you who are too cheap to buy those over priced packets of taco flavoring mix.

Ingredients:

3 Tablespoons chili powder
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 Tablespoon ground cumin seed
1 Tablespoon sea salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon ground red cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons black pepper

In a small mixing bowl, stir together all ingredients.
Pour into clean glass jar with screw-on cap.
Shake vigorously to distribute the herbs and spices.
Use about 2 tablespoons of this Taco Seasoning for each pound of meat. I used beer for liquid. 1/2 for the meat and 1/2 for the cook.
Label your jar of leftover Taco Seasoning and save it with your spices.

I layered the shell as follows:
Refried Beans
Taco Meat
A little shredded cheese
Rooster sauce
Shredded lettuce
Chopped onions
Diced tomatoes
More cheese
More Rooster sauce.

Beats the heck out of that TB place.
Enjoy and thanks for lookin'

Thag says to tell you:
"CHHHHIIIMMMIIICCHHHOOOOOOOOOOOGGGAA!!!"
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE
Hank: "Do you know how to jumpstart a man's heart with a downed power line?"
Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."

David, I usually put homemade fresh salsa on it instead of tomatoes. I just didn't have any made.

Thank ya Boots.
