Decided to do a Ripper with a regular weener and leave the link sausage for other munching. Found a technique on Youtube that Shotgun Red called "Mexican Hot Dogs" and they are just weenies wrapped in bacon and cooked. He said that they originated in Mexico and are widely available there. He did his on a griddle but I did mine in hot oil "ripper style". I really liked the results except that I didn't realize that the buns I bought were already sliced clean thru so it ate more like a sammie than a dog. I also really like that Whataburger Creamy Pepper sauce and can't wait to use it in some dipping sauce for grilled shrimp.
Eight ingredients make up my Saturday Lunch.
Bun
Weenier
Bacon
Chez
Relish
Sooner Sauce
Creamy Sauce
Chopped Own-yawn

Re: Ripper of a different color
thanks, it was daggone good
Bert, it disappeared before the bacon cooled off
the creamy and green stuff was a good match - - - it was definitely a sammie because it didn't have any beans in it

Re: Ripper of a different color
If I may hi-jack my own thread, while I was googling exactly how I wanted to cook the bacon wrapped weenie I saw something that I wanted to share.
I knew that I didn't want to do that single item over charcoal so it would have to be oven, hot oil OR in the Microwave. All of them would have been ok but when I saw a link that warned of the dangers of using toothpicks in the Microwave it was a total shock to me. Don't know how accurate it was but it's something that you might want to be aware of.
