Trying out some Jerky

Postby tex_toby » Sun Jan 16, 2011 10:12 am

I bought a bottom round roast and tried to slice real thin by hand which was a pain. A meat slicer is definitely on my radar - this just pushed me over the top. Marinated the meat overnight and loaded up the dehydrator this morning. I can't wait to give it a try. It smells great!

You know, I sliced it up last night and this morning while I was loading it up I thought, "man, I should have partially frozen it before I sliced it." Oh well, I was in a hurry due to excitement I guess. I've eaten ugly food before. We'll see how it goes anyways...

All finished! Flavor is excellent. Heat level is pretty high. I'm a pepperhead, so I like the heat level but I may need to tone it down for my wife to enjoy a bit more next time. She likes it too, but it definitely opens the sinuses!

Toby, i found a home use type slicer on ebay a few years ago, looks like one of the commercial types only smaller, i think it was about $30 or so, works great, you're welcome to borrow it anytime if you like, See you Saturday
