Out of a tin can, a soldering iron, and some pellets. I was skeptical, but it really works! Saw it on youtube. total investment $12.50

It works well - used the can and soldering iron to smoke cheese for Christmas gifts and have cold smoked salmon with it. I didn't use pellets - I used wood chips.
