Homemade Gunpowder

Postby GTR » Fri Mar 29, 2024 11:48 am

Finally got a good deal on jalapeños at .50 a pound. 8.5# of fresh jalapeños turns into a pint and a half of powder. Dehydrated and processed in the Vitamix till powdered.

Should be good for a while.

Thank you gentlemen. Made some last year. Been experimenting with it since. Hope to find some good results.

we did that one year when we grew a bumper crop, so from what I read the only difference between the chipotle and jalapeño is the smoke
in the past I did cut some peppers in half lengthwise and smoke then dehydrate and grind, never did reverse the process might should have dehydrated halves first then smoke and grind.
the outcome was not very smokey pepper powder but it still made great seasoning... 8)

The peppers are still mild compared to what they’ll be by summer. This batch probably will be mild-medium.

Chipotles are left to fully ripen. Once they turn red they are smoked and dried.
