Texas Gunpowder - RETURNS!

Postby Gator » Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:18 am

Texas Gunpowder was a well known brand that vanished after the unfortunate death of the founder, Whit "Pappy" Pinnell, in 1999. Pappy and his family had built up a good following of customers including several super stars; Phil Collins from Genesis, Fats Domino and others. Even 10 years after his death, customers are still asking shop owners for the spicy powder. "It’s not available and longer"... Several companies started making knock-offs due to customer demand. But there is only one Texas Gunpowder.

http://www.texasgunpowder.com/

After over a year of searching I finally found the co-owner, Pappy's wife, Janice Pinnell. Mrs. Pinnell was thrilled that someone was still interested in making and selling the product. She sold me the rights to use the name and start making Texas Gunpowder again.

It is made from 100% pure ground jalapenos. Several of the knockoffs add salt or other ingredients. Texas Gunpowder packs quite a punch. It is used as a condiment and in recipes. Texas Gunpowder can be used in place of black pepper. It adds a hot, spicy and sweet flavor to any food. Once you get a bite, you'll want more. It's addictive.

We are close to producing our first bottle. The product will be sold under the SuckleBusters label as Texas Gunpowder, Original Recipe. The labels also include a special tribute to Pappy Pinnell, our part in thanking the Pinnells for allowing me to bring the product back after so many years.

Check out the labels, based on a powder keg design (still a few minor changes pending):

I will update this section as soon as we begin shipping!

This is a great one with a great story and I am honored to bring back Texas Gunpowder. Thanks Mrs Pinnell and thanks to Pappy!

Now, is it a certain type of jap papper that makes it special?

Texas Gunpowder is blended from various varieties of jalapenos for a consistent taste and heat factor. Its pure jalapeno powder as opposed to (some) others that add salt or other ingredients to s-t-r-e-a-c-h out the good stuff.

Good to know. I've tried one or two other 'jalapeno' powders from the grocery and they didn't do much for me... Will def. pick some up. I will be need'n some more cajun sauce by then too and still need to try the BBQ sauce, so it will be a worth while trip.

Is "Texas Gunpowder" on the market yet? We still have
a small amount from the original that we use very conservatively.
Hoping the new product is exactly the same. It didn't need any
improving. Please advise when or if we can buy it yet.
