Got a question on SBs brisket rub

Smoking up a packer this weekend. Plan on using Gators brisket rub for the first time
Instruction call for a thick layer of the rub. :dont: Seeings how this be my 3rd attempt at brisket ....first one I applied way too much salt, second one didn't have enough rub as in kinda bland.
Anyone used Gators brisket rub ? A thick layer to me means covering the outside of the packer with the rub so as not being able to see through the rub, would that be right :?:

Help

Bill

I don't recall having used the brisket rub before but I can offer a general rule of thumb: Taste the rub you're using yourself and if salt is a prominent taste, use it frugally. If salt is not very prominent at all, then fire away!!

SB makes some great rubs but some of them have a little kick so keep that in mind. If you are feeding anybody that's not good with spice go easy on it.

I can't say specifically about the brisket rub since in use S&P but that is from experience on the other rubs.

Again, great flavor but tends to have some kick to it.

Hey Bill - looks like a good weekend in store for you!

The Brisket Rub is not super high in salt, so a fully coated layer like the one below is fine. Alternatively - I like to use a layer of SPG then a layer of Brsket Rub, thats a good combo too...hope this helps.

Thanks all :salut:
I'v got two strikes on me when it comes to brisket. Hopefully I'll get the right amount of rub down on this one.
Thanks for the photo Gator. Gives me a good idea of how much to put on.
