Heck, ol' Tex_Toby earned the rights to show his work as his avatar.... won a throw down as I recalled.

Folks I was just thrown another wrench into the gears. I was just now told that this is a spiral cut 10 pound ham so does this ham being spiral cut change the cooking method and times?

Thanks for the help

Paul

My grandson's girlfriend works at a local Nursng Home and they gave her a 10 pound ham for Christmas and she wants me to smoke it. I would like a good Honey Glaze Recipe that I will start brushing on about half way through the cooking process. Simce I will be smoking at around 225 to 235 degrees how long should I leave the ham in the smoker?

Thanks for the help,

Paul

Nope. the one in the link I posted was a spiral cut ham. Just stand it on end, not on it's side when smoking, like I did in the linked cook.

You will need to watch drying it out... with it being already sliced. Basically you are warming up a fully cooked product while adding smoke flavor. I like to do mine in a foil pan with loose foil over the top. I make up a root beer and jalapeno apple jelly slop and baste the ham every crown/coke or so (about 45 minutes). Gather the liquid in the foil pan and mix it with some brown sugar... simmer on the firebox to make a glaze. Apply to the ham about the last 15 to 30 min. Dealing with a lot of sugar I don't like to add too much too soon or you get a good burnt flavor (not good eats!).

are you sure that ham is not already glazed?
If not, and your looking for the type of glaZe like they have on a "Honey Baked Ham" then I believe your going to need a torch

Using a torch blow torch with spiral ham

Mix ur ingredients -place them on a cookie sheet lined with foil
than spead out the mixed ingredients you going to use for glazing ON the SPIRAL ham- roll rind n fat into mixture on cookie sheet- getting mixed ingredients into the spiral sections also- BLOW torch it n keep repeating process until u get the desired coating built up..blow torch after each time u build another layer.. Don't rush the process.but use torch fast over ham so it doesn't burn the ham glaze-just glazes it well.
