My aunt brought back some halibut she caught in Alaska and gave my sister some. My sister won't eat things that live in the water (she's crazy! ), but my nephew called me yesterday to ask if I would cook it for him. I told him sure and asked if it was cut into steaks or fillets. They "think" they are cut into steaks, but the jury is still out on that one. I have cooked lots of fish on the grill, but never halibut. Anybody have any good recipes?

Re: Halibut Steaks
Halibut doesn't have a lot of oil in the meat, so it's easy to dry them out. It's also a very mild flavored fish.
For steaks, I usually put a light coat of EVO or Safflower oil on them and a little S&P. Grill them over med heat. Usually takes about 6-8 minutes total. Only turn them once. Then serve with a little butter and a lemon wedge.
You can also wrap them in thin sliced bacon and grill them. Either way works real good.

I haven't cooked any halibut that I can remember, but Jim's methods sound good...

Re: Halibut Steaks
Its my favorite to use in fish tacos with pineapple-habernaro sauce/jelly as the condiment of choice.
