convert tomato paste to tomato sauce?

Postby Gator » Sat Apr 05, 2008 7:09 am

Anyone have a conversion for this?

I have a recipe with paste + water in it and think I should be able to convert to tomato sauce...right?

This is the rule of thumb I go by. :D

3/4 cup tomato paste + 1 cup water = 2 cup tomato sauce

I would sub

4 cups tomato sauce
1 1/2 cup water

that sounds right what Jim said. I add tomato paste to water all the time but I do it based on how thick or runny I want it. Make sure you season it well

That's seems right, Gator. :D I would not put in the whole 1 1/2 cups of water, I'd start with 1/2 cup first and then add as much as needed to get the thickness desired. :D Sauce has some spices added but paste only has salt added. So might have to adjust the seasoning.
