Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

Batter:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
1 stick of butter

Topping:
8 oz cream cheese (soft)
2 eggs
16 oz powdered sugar

Mix all batter ingredients together. Pat batter out into a 9x13 pan that has been lightly coated in butter.

Set back about 1/4 cup of the powdered sugar then mix the topping ingredients using a mixer until smooth. Pour this on top of the batter mixture.

Bake at 325° for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown

Let cool. Sprinkle the reserved powdered sugar over the top, cut and serve.

I always thought that there was a hint of lemon in this until I made it and discovered there wasnt. Maybe this is what she does make? Wish I had a piece right now!

Yup, ol' Paula Dean has a Gooey Cake recipe with tons of different ways you can mix and match. I like using devils food cake mix and peanut butter with the top ingredients.

I am going to try this several different ways -

I am going to add crushed pineapple to the topping to one

and

I am going to add some lemon zest to one

its a great simple cake .. but it is really sweet so I am going to try to cut down on the sweetness some.
