We're celebrating our national day on the 17th of may. One of the obligatory desserts is kransekake. The cake is basically made of ground almonds, icing sugar and egg whites.
You make 12 or more rings with each a bit smaller than the other. Stack them on top of each other to make a cone. Traditionally we hang a few "bang bonbons" on it. The bonbons contain a small note with a bad joke and a paper hat. We also put a few Norwegian paper flags on the cake. It also contains a small paper strip with powder. Two persons always pull each end to create a small bang
The cake tastes a bit like marzipan.
Normally we bake this cake a few days ahead, but unfortunately to busy at the moment, so this time we buy one. They taste almost as good.
