Old style spicy chow chow

Postby Native_Horn » Fri Mar 14, 2014 2:40 pm

Wondering if anyone knows any good old style chow chow that isn't the sweet stuff. My dad always talks about how as a kid his mom would give him chow chow when he'd go up to the diner she worked at in Austin. Said it wasn't sweet, but it also wasn't blistering hot but had a nice kick to it. All the recipes I find and the stuff in the stores are always sweet. I guess because it's for the tourists or some such and it's gotta be sweet so they'll eat it.

Anyway, anyone got anything out there?

Recipes are suggestions not laws so bend it to suit your taste. These are good recipes I cut the sugar to 1/3 cup just enuogh to balance it for my taste.http://southernfood.about.com/od/pickle ... 80810b.htm

Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.
