That’s because you have chosen to live north of 380 and have kind thoughts of Barry Switzer

Looks a lot like our common crab. Different species though. Latin name is cancer pagurus.
Other crabs here is king crab and snow crab.

Re: Something Different
My brother in law bought them at an Asian market (99 something) in Houston and brought them to my house in San Antonio. They were huge. The picture does not do them justice.

Dungeness crabs have the best taste. King crabs are good but come in third behind dungeness and blue crab IMHO.

I love em all, but the best I ever had my mother in law and I caught off Bob Hall pier in the late 70's, they were still alive when we boiled them, man were they sweet.
She shucked them too, what a treat.

Won’t be catching anything off of Bob Hall for quite a while. Unfortunately Hurricane Hanna did a number on the pier. The ramp leading up to the pier was totally destroyed and the end of pier, “T” configuration is gone.

Re: Something Different
Yup, the wife and I watched the news coverage and remembered spending happy hours sitting out there fishing and crabbing at night.
My daughter who was 8 at the time snagged a giant manta ray which swam under the pier and across her line and everybody freaked out.
We cut the line needless to say...thing must have weighed a ton.
