Russ,
I have tried some suspect things as well, but I couldn't eat them while like that.
Maybe small pieces chipped up WITHOUT the head and eyes lol..
But, I totally get that different countries have unique foods and I definitely respect the variance there. What do they resemble taste wise ?

Whitebait was a favorite appetizer of ours when we lived in Scotland. Breaded and fried crisp. It looked like a plate of fried shiners but was a mighty tasty appeteezer. Could eat them like potato chips.
Not the weirdest thing I've eaten. Anguillas beat out whitebait.

A sought after delicacy here, I keep 2 or 3 kgs in the freezer for special occasions. Taste fishy but bit lemon juice these are beautiful . IMHO.
