Hmmm..never heard many folks braggin on Sandbass. Up in Wilbarger County it considered purty close to a trash fish...about a notch up from Drum and Gar. Course Drum and Gar is good which most folks dont realize either. Used to be when we got into a big mess of the Sandies we filet em out and steam em good with some crab boil..and get em cold. Then when it nice in cold you dip it into red seafood sauce. The Game Warden and the first person I knew to do it. called it..Po man's Lobster. Purty dang good eating.

Once you catch and eat a Walleye, it doesn't matter how many other kinds of swimmers are out there cause they ain't Walleyes.

Here ya go BW this is what they look like and they are in the perch family.
And yes they can be caught in Texas but your chances would be a lot better up north.

Around here all fish that are not Catfish are referred to as "scalies".

"Catch anything?"
"Caught 3 Cats and a tubfull of scalies"

Well catfish seem to be real sensitive about the water they come out of. You catch one from an old muddy tank or lake..it taste like mud. Bass from the same water are nice purty and white meated. Moral is if you fishing an old red stock tank..try to catch bass. Now if a person wants a nice sweet catfish you got to catch em out of the Red River. The old game warden always called them "turd hustlers" cuz he think they like to eat cow patties.

In my opinion no fish of any kind is fit to eat from a low, muddy stock tank. Once years ago I caught some nice bass from a tank like that, but when I fileted them they had some kind of grubs in their meat. That spoiled me on bass for many years.

If by chance you unfortunately caught a cat fish or bull head in Minnesota, it is highly illegal to release them back into the drink. They're just a notch below a sucker or a carp, maybe a rock bass filled with worms. Now don't think those creatures exist in Colorado, least I've never seen one. :stir:
