Thawing/Brining a Turkey

Postby nascarchuck » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:50 pm

My wife has a turkey thawing in a large pot of water. I got to thinking (dangerous, I know!) why couldnt you go ahead and pull the turkey out of the wrapper and let the turkey thaw in the brine?

don't really see a reason why not. after all you need to keep the thing cool anyway. so why not let it do some of the work. but of course you did get a NON-ENHANCED turkey, right?
otherwise brining might make it too salty depending on the brine that was already injected before purchase.
