Here's one we like, really basic and a bit strong around the smackers so wouldn't want it every day but still pretty flamin good. I got me nephew to look this up for me so not exactly how I do em but basic idea.

Beer and Vegemite Marinated Steaks (Serves 6)

Ingredients

1 tablespoon Vegemite
½ cup beer (bitter only, no poofter beers)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons seeded mustard
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 teaspoon finely chopped rosemary

6 steaks

Method

1. combine the Vegemite with the beer, sugar,
mustard, vinegar and rosemary to form a marinade.
Pour over the steaks and marinate for 1-2 hour in the
refrigerator.

2. BBQ the steaks on an oiled grill over a
high heat for 2-4 minutes each side or until cooked
to your liking.

3. TOP the steaks with mushrooms and serve with
BBQ corn and basic salad.

We actually use a lot more Vegemite then a tablespoon but me missus and me grew up on the stuff and can eat it with a spoon and kids eat anything resembling food anyway, my youngest ate a piece of rubber off my outboard motor in January and we had to take him for all kinds of tests. Anyway we usually use 4 tablespoons but best not doing that if you're not used to it, think recipe might be made to keep it safe.

It's usually a spread mate, whack her on bread and that or toast, few recipes like this but where it can be used other ways. Good thing to have if stuck a bit outta the ways not close to a city and that cause makes crappy food taste decent. Most blokes over here can eat it strong, sheilas too but it's kinda strong if someone's not used to it. I once hooked up with a sheila that ate it with ice cream, wouldn't try that though mate, I'd have to be pretty peaved, it's sorta salty.

I can say that in all my culinary field trips from ethnic markets to the superstores I have never encountered Vegemite. But if tofu is a component of the stuff, it has to be available in Boulder. A couple of my neighbors are from Australia so maybe they have a line on the stuff...I think they're more into curries.

Kraft foods packages it. Specialty stores might have it. Several import food places online carry it.

Vegemite (pronounced /ˈvɛdʒəˌmaɪt/)[1][2] is an Australian food paste made from yeast extract. It is dark brown in colour and is mainly used as a spread for sandwiches, toast, crumpets and cracker biscuits, as well as being used as a filling for pastries like Cheesymite scroll. It is similar to British and New Zealand Marmite and to Swiss Cenovis.

Vegemite is made from used brewers' yeast extract, a waste product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste may be described as salty, slightly bitter, and malty — somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon. The texture is smooth and sticky, much like peanut butter. It is not as intensely flavoured as British Marmite and it is less sweet than the New Zealand version of Marmite.
