Keller Oct 2-3 2009 - I have a question

Postby cowboydon » Tue Sep 22, 2009 12:15 am

I have seen advice on the forum, that leads me to believe if you judge some events, it will
assist in seeing what the judges are looking for and make the learning somewhat shorter, or at least
answer some questions I have about judges.
So heres my question, there is a cookoff in Keller TX. on Oct 2-3 "4th Annual Lions Club BBQ and Cookoff"
What is the process one needs to follow in order to become a judge? I am really new to this and have
only been involved as a team member for Go Meat at the CCA BBQ Fundraiser for 2 years.
So I dont know anything about the Lions Club BBQ, would it be possible for me to be a judge for this event?

Thanks

Might try emailing the contacts listed here...

Most contests seem to be seeking judges, so your chances are pretty good...

It is the promoters responsiblity to round up the judges for the event; your best bet would be to contact the promoter and have them add you to the list. In most cases you can just show up and volunteer at the judgeing tent.

if you would like to judge an event - come to Traders Village 10-10/11 - we always need judges - expecting 100+ teams

If you should decide to come out - come to the judging area and ask for Lynn - I can make sure that you get to judge.

I agree Don judging will help you in competition. Choose the entry you think you need to improve most on IE ribs or brisket. It is likely you will judge only one. Think about it with 100 cooks how many samples a judge will experience in a event.

Thank you Lynn - I have to work every other weekend so I need to schedule events for my off weekend.
100 teams would be quite an event thats for sure.
I will stay in touch and see if we can work something out for a weekend I am not working.

Thank you very much

Thats what I hoping for, during the past 2 CCA events I was a team member for Go Meat and we are busy so I never got around to any of the teams to get samples - On Friday night before the event some of the teams were exchanging some
different cooked up goodies, but nothing that would be used in judging, so this should be an eye opener for me.

I have been in contact with the folks running the Keller Cookoff and I will be part of the judging crews for several
categories.
I will get there early Saturday and will hopefully be walking around and enjoying the sites and smells befor the
judging duties start.

Good luck to all who will be in Keller this weekend.
