I need you guys imput

Postby Pony Express » Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:29 pm

Well I've gotten this far, and I want to continue on so I think I'm going to enter this small cook off the first weekend of Oct.

I have the pit and it works.

I was looking at the picks of NO CLUE at the Bass pro cook off, to see a set up, and was wondering,
1 were the canopy's adequate?
2 Tables, how much table to I need? 1 8'? 2?
3 Was there any items you found yourself wishing you had?
4 This cook off will not have electric available. Do I need a generator?

Anything else you may think helpful would be appreciated

1.Well Pony being this was our first, the canopys were very adequate.
2.Needed to bring our own beer
3. 2 Tables were definitly needed.
4. Didnt bring our own beer
5. I think we hit it right on what we needed, just maybe liitle too much of some items.
6. Wished for our own Beer BADLY at start of comp , Middle, and End!!!
7. Will be very helpful to have Elect in middle of night.
8. Last but my not be the least, before I forget, carry your own beer. It may be needed, before the Comp's over.
Thats about it, Good Luck!!

We def. had everything we needed and then some! Will def. par down the "To Take" list for the next one.

If it hadn't rained, 1 canopy would have been sufficient, but rain it did!
I really think you could get by with 1 8ft table and as far as electric, it was nice, but most of my on site type of cooking over the years was done under lantern light and I didn't have a prob. with it.

I have never competed but been to a couple of comps. I hate to, but I will disagree with James.

I think that you could get by with only 1 canopy but if you have access to two that would be much better. I also think that you would need at least 2 tables if not more.

But then again this all depends on how much space the promoters give each team.

If I were competing alone, this would pretty much my setup. Pit, canopy, 1 6' table... In the pic, I also have a smaller camp type collapsible table that is handy to park supplies on... I hang a coleman lantern from the center support on the canopy and the reflection off the white top makes for good light under there.

You will also need some way to clean up. At the CCA event, we used the 3 buckets they provided. One soapy water, one plain water and 1 bleach water.

Hope that helps!

Here is my setup. I do believe I'd take two tables you need one to use for cooking and another for everything else (there is one in the trailer you can't see in the picture). The Cambro sink is nice but you can live without it take a spray bottle of cleaner and water to rinse with and plenty of paper towels. Since I use a pellet cooker I can't live without electricity but have a battery setup that will work for a comp.
BTW Beer is in the silver cooler in the trailer.
