Melody Oaks Ranch 04/05/08

Postby BAR "G" BBQ » Mon Apr 07, 2008 9:44 am

Mark your calanders for next year; this was a great event "Melody Oaks Ranch in Priddy Texas". This was the events second year sanctioned by LSBS. Last years cook-off drew 46 entries and this years had 80 BBQ entries along with 72 bean entries. There is plenty of room on the ranch with lots of shade trees; in conjunction with the cook-off are tractor pulls Friday and Saturday, live music Friday night, and a Saturday night dance. The Bar "G" Team didn't get any calls but was fortunate enough to make the final table in all 3 meat catagories; 14th chicken, 11th pork spare ribs, and 15th brisket.

Dang thats a lot of competitors for a cookoff only two years old in a town nobody ever heard of. Congrats on the final tables. We love that one yall have in Commanche too. Back in about 98 it was our 2nd cookoff we ever been to and manged 2nd Ribs out of 47 teams. We was hooked like hawgy bass on the comp circuit:) Grand kids got covered up with poison ivy down at the City Park and the skeeters eat you alive if you try to sleep outside. I had about 20 folks crowded in Frederica the 20 MH just to keep em under the AC and to dodge the skeeters. We was cozy on Sat night:)

The promoters of the Melody Oaks Cook-Off not only do a great job in putting this event on but also did an outstanding job in advertising this event; frequent post in local newspapaers and radio advertisements a month prior to the cook-off. The new LSBS board members have also taken a very pro-active approach in promoting up-coming events. The owner/promoter of the Melody Oaks Ranch also owns the local livestock commission company in Comanche; he added an additional bonus of 500.00 to first place brisket. First place brisket paid in excess of 1000.00.
