Which organization?
Any of ya'll belong to any of the Texas BBQ associations? Which do you prefer or think offers the best chances for a new guy? North Texas area - looking for something that might have more comps nearby!

We are members of IBCA and love the organization. We also cook in LSBS (Lone Star BBQ Society) events and have a good time too. Good people in both organizations and both have alot of cookoffs in the N. Texas region.

Re: Which organization?
Hey Jack. We cooked quite a few comps in times past but not doing it anymore. At one time we were members of both IBCA and LSBS. Think it generally a good idear to belong to both associations but if I was forced to make a choice of joining only one..would choose IBCA without a doubt. Generally speaking as far as I know about the only advantage to belonging to LSBS is a chance to win some kind of cooker of the year award for them who attends the most cookoffs and scores the most points. With IBCA you get a chance to win some serious added money at the big Annual Trader's Village Cookoff in Grand Prarie plust a chance to get invited to their invitational cookoff which again involves a nice purse and no entry fee. Sure there there is other advantages I am forgetting about:) Oh yeah..they aint quite as persnickity on doing meat inspections. That is a pointless exercise in futility in my view. If a person is going to cheat don't think showing a little raw meat to the inspector be any problemo.

Jack you may want to put this on your calendar..
Event dates--- September 19th & 20th, same place, Bass Pro Shop Grapevine
Registration will be posted on our website ON MARCH 1st....and you 20 teams will have the opportunity as our "Original Cooking Team Alumni" to get your spot first.
We don't have it confirmed if Trace will be back with The Ultimate Smoker & Grill, so until we get his yah or nay, we will have 25 cooking teams with him, or 40 without him (all about space!)
So..March 1st go to www.campcraigallen.org and get registered!

Hello there JaCK2U2; I am a member of and compete in both LSBS and IBCA competitions. Both are great organizations made up of some of the best people you will ever meet. I would strongly suggest membership in both LSBS and IBCA. I started cooking prior to sanctioned BBQ competitions (BUBBA Qs) and believe me when I say those events in many cases were far from fair. Supporting these organizations by joining and paying membership dues ensures every individual a fair chance as well as continued BBQ competitions as we know them today. Just my 2 cents worth; hope to see you on the competition trail real soon.
